General Trading Methodology

Richard trades intraday using signals learned through attending many trading courses over his 5-year trading career.  He concentrates on trading the DAX and eMini S&P using pivot highs and lows to enter trades.  Immediately upon entry, he identifies his target and stop to share by announcing the information in the room.  Richard observes the market action using monthly, weekly, daily, 30-minute, 5-minute, 89Tick, 144Tick, 233Tick and 610Tick charts.  On these charts he places Walter Bressert indicators and AdvancedGET studies.  He places great value on the these indicators as the provide the view through the windshield of the market.

Richard’s intraday trading goal is 3 points a trade; however, sometimes he goes for only one point in choppy markets. On the dashboard of his computer, he maintains constant vigil of 6 main market internals:  $TICK, $TICKI, $TRIN, $VOLD, Long Bond and Time & Sales on those issues he’s trading.  He prefers to restrict his trading time from 0400 hours to 0800 hours and likes Tue Wed Thu better than Mon or Fri.  When he can arrange his sleep schedule, his favorite trade is the Midnight DAX opener following the action revealed in the first 30 minutes of trading.   Richard trades one issue at a time, either concentrating on the DAX or the eMini… seldom both.  Early after open, he watches for prior day lows, prior day highs and then following the first hour’s action, he looks for reversals at the 1st touch of first hour high and/or the first hour low.  He believes in starting out every week with a rigorous review of the DayTradersU$A Weekly Outlook finding the commentary invigorating by those he’s recruited to provide guidance to all members.

Background

Richard V. Rueb is the Executive Director of DayTradersUSA, a national organization dedicated to supporting traders at all levels of experience by providing a vast network of resources and opportunities for education.

Richard has been a champion of education for over 30 years, since taking his degree in accounting from the University of Denver. Following a 20-year career in information systems and information security consulting, as Executive Director of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA), he grew the Association from 350 to 2200 members between 1987 and 1992.

Through this experience, Richard was able to cultivate both the leadership ability and the tenacity to embark on a wide-ranging career in the world of professional trading.

An active trader since 1997, Richard started with eTrade when there were only a handful of online accounts. In 1998 he was introduced to Direct Access Trading by The Online Trading Academy, (OTA) where he learned to scalp momentum stocks. Subsequently, he was personally mentored by such industry leaders as Tony Oz and Sammy Chua, as well as Dan Gibby of Pristine, and Ray Grant (Ninja) who teaches trading in Laguna Niguel, CA. In 1999, Richard contracted with OTA to upgrade their courses and instructed their Trader Boot Camp.

While swing trading is the style that best suits his demeanor, intra-day trading has been the way of successful traders for the past three years.  Richard migrated from stock hunting to futures trading in 2002 and continues to enjoy futures trading, while never missing the challenge of hunting for the best stocks to trade.

Bottom line… Richard believes in EDUCATION to keep traders out of harm’s way.

He’s made all the mistakes new traders make, and is now an educated surviving trader who presses an eye on the market from 4:00 AM to 1:00 PM PST every trading day. Believing that Preserving Capital during the learning curve is paramount to achieving the status of ‘Market Trader,’ Richard continues to develop his own trading expertise while helping other traders learn the best techniques to remain in the game. This is why he’s driven to lead DayTradersUSA, which he’s served since March 2000.

Richard is excited about FuturesTalk, and welcomes your input and interaction. He is ‘member orientated’ and will help you when you need it. His interest is providing guidance during the learning process – the main reason he’s agreed to assume this tremendous responsibility. When you or your new trader friends ask more questions than you have answers, he will help. Contact him at rvrueb@gmail.com.
